Evolve M Series Troubleshooting Tips and Programming Guide

M Series Tips and Programming Guide

This guide provides programming instructions and essential details for successfully interacting with the Dish Evolve M Series receivers. The M Series receivers operate on two integrated platforms:

  • Android Platform: The primary operating system.
  • Onstream Platform: A layer on top of the Android platform specifically for Dish’s configurations.

Important Note

When referring to the "Settings menu" in this guide, we mean the Android Home Settings menu—not the M Series or Onstream App settings. Ensure the Onstream app is enabled and locked to keep the receiver in the Onstream configuration (this will be covered in the below contents).

Accessing the Android Settings Menu

Ensure the Onstream App is locked before proceeding.

  1. In the Onstream App, navigate to the Settings Menu on the Home page, then select the TV Settings tab.
  2. Enter the following key combination on the remote to open the Android Settings menu:
    • D-Pad Up, Rewind, Rewind, Play, Play, Down

Key Button Combinations

Use these combinations to switch between modes or lock configurations on the receiver:

  • Entering QAM Mode

    • (Note: A network error will appear initially upon setup in QAM mode)
    • Combination: Up, Play, Play, Rewind, Rewind, Down
  • Locking into Onstream

    • (This toggles Onstream mode on/off)
    • Combination: Fast-forward, Fast-forward, Up, Up, Rewind, Rewind, Down, Down

Network Error Page

o   Enter the QAM Mode key combination.

o   Input the SmartBox chassis serial number.

***PLEASE NOTE: If the chassis serial number is entered incorrectly, the receiver will require a factory reset and reprogramming. Signs of incorrect entry include successful network connectivity but no branded content or correct Welcome page on-screen.

WIFI Requirements

Each room needs a minimum signal strength of -60 RSSI for optimal performance.

To check RSSI levels on the receiver

  1. Enter Developer Mode:
    1. Open Android Settings Menu.
    2. Go to Device Preferences > Developer Options > enable WiFi verbose logging.
    3. Return to Device Preferences > About, and highlight Android TV OS build. Press OK repeatedly (7 times) until a message confirms Developer Mode is enabled.
  1. To view RSSI levels, go to Network and Internet in the Settings menu. This will display RSSI for each network.

Note: Developer Mode does not need to be disabled afterward.

Troubleshooting Remote Issues

If the remote isn’t pairing or functioning correctly, ensure it is on the correct firmware, which is automatically updated from the M2 receiver. The current remote firmware version is v00.15.

To check firmware:

  1. Go to Android Settings Menu.
  2. Select Remotes and Accessories > Onstream RCU.

M1/M2 Pairing Button

To pair the remote with the receiver, locate the pairing button on your receiver. Here are the button locations for M1 and M2 series receivers:
